GETTING TOGETHER IN OKLAHOMA

We finally did it!

Yes! We finally did it! We have talked for many years about getting together--just the "old folks" as we are known at the Alger Family Reunions. Suzette, Margaret and Ted came from Utah and Norm and Laurel from South Carolina. We met in the middle at Phil and Sandi's beautiful home on the lake in Oklahoma. Can't think of a better place to spend a week together! We spent time enjoying the gorgeous lakeview, the birds building a nest on the deck, rain, thunder, lightning, riding the atvs and driving the tractors at the farm, lots of delicious food, playing cards and dominoes, visiting some local sites and restaurants and much more! We had a great time. Thanks Phil and Sandi for the wonderful week!

We visited our loved ones at the Elmo Cemetary, had a visit from a real cowgirl, shot black powder rifles and visited the old homestead!

The Mining Museum in Helper, Utah! Norm & Phil lead family members on a tour of the museum. We were excited to see a picture of Grandpa Alger and learn more about coal mining.

WOW! We had a great family reunion!!!

Dear Family,

I wanted to let everyone know how much we enjoyed the reunion! What a great family group we have. When we were planning the reunion and we would share our plans with friends, they would comment on what a huge job it is to do a reunion with so many people, and in such a far away place! Yes it is, but when everyone comes with such enthusiasm and willingness to help it makes it fun and very worthwhile! So thanks to all of you for helping out with meals and clean up and for just being willing to participate in the many activities! We do have a really fun family! A special thanks to Suzette for helping with the various meeting places and all the food she contributed! Also hosting the girls on Friday morning for the card exchange party.

We will continue to post on this blog and keep a history of our family reunions. The Phil Alger family can take over the blog for the ALGER REUNION 2010! Wow, 2010, can you believe that??? See ya all then!

The Reunion is Almost Here!!

The reunion is almost upon us! I hope everyone is getting excited! I would suggest that everyone give the Price Holiday Inn a call to confirm reservations. The lady who has been dealing with the Alger Family Reunion is named Robyn. She should be able to help ya out & make sure that the rooms that you set aside a few months ago are for sure ready to go! Welcome get together at church bowery near the hotel.

We will have tacos/taco salads to eat and renew aquaintances.

BYODrinks! Hayride later in the evening!

(Sweat shirts & insect repellent, good idea)

Tuesday July 1st, 5:00 pm

Meet at the Elmo church bowery and we will eat together. We will have cold cuts for sandwiches and salads! BYODs. Could be surprise visitors! After we will all go to the Elmo Cemetery and enjoy a family program. Following this we will go to Victor to roast marshmallow and do a snipe hunt!

Blast From the Past---Alger Family Reunion 2008

Dear Alger Family,

We are creating a Family Reunion Blog to help us organize ourselves for our 2008 Reunion! As most of you know we are planning the reunion in the Carbon/Emery County area. We decided that it is time for all of us to revisit the area where Margaret, Phil, Suzette, Norm and Kent were born, and spent their childhood and teenage years. We will be visiting the scene of many Alger events that we have heard all about, but have wondered if they really happened. We all know these stories have gotten better with each telling, and now we will get to the real truth.

Norm, Laurel and Katie, along with Kim and family, and Scott and his children visited the Price area on July 1-3. We checked out accomadations and other possible activities for our big event. Here are some things we have decided on and are considering:

• Reunion will be held Monday, June 30th-July 5th 2008.


• We will be staying at the Holiday Inn in Price. This was formerly the Day's Inn. This is the only place in the area that can accomodate a group of our size. I will get more info on this to you ASAP.


• We want to organize visits to various Alger Family sites. Family home, the Old Homestead, Elmo City, various gravesites, site of the family sawmill, etc.


• Ghost night tour of the Victor Cemetary and snipe hunt.


• Visit to Cleveland/Lloyd Dinosaur Quarry and other desert sites, Bull Hollow or Bull Hollar depending on who you talk to! Possibly a visit to the Wedge for those adventurous souls who can take heat and bugs!


• ATV adventures in the beautiful mountains.


• Price has a fabulous wave pool. A great place to recover after a day in the heat. We can plan picnics in the park by the pool. It is open to 8pm and is very inexpensive!


• We discovered a shooting range at Watis. It is new and looked like a fun place for those who enjoy shooting. I has an old west town with pop up targets.


• There are many museums in the area that tell about the history of the area. The big Natural History Museum in Price, a mining museum in Helper, a pioneer museum in Castle Dale and more.


• Golfing, mountain biking, hiking, four wheeling, boating and other activities are available.

At this point we are open to ideas and suggestions. Also if you have a blog or a My Space we will put a link on this blog. Also, Kati assures me that it is very easy to sign in to leave comments and questions on this blog. When you do, I should be able to answer you back. The blog is a great way to communicate, and hopefully I can remember what to do when I don't have Kati to help me!
